SELÁ

THE SELÁ EMERGES FROM THE MAGNIFICENT NORTH EASTERN LANDSCAPE AND OFFERS 27 KM OF DRAMATIC AND TECHNICAL FLY WATER, DIVIDED INTO JUST 6-8 SINGLE ROD BEATS.

EXTRAORDINARY SALMON
RIVER IN ICELAND

The Selá river is fished in late June and July with 4-6 rods, each with a huge private beat to explore. Early August sees the salmon populate the upper river and 8 rods are deployed over 8 private beats.

The lower river is easily accessible, and generally more open in character, whereas the spectacular canyons and deep impressive pools of the upper river are more of a physical and technical challenge, and extremely addictive for it!

Depending on your preference you can fish many of the pools with a single handed rod but a 12-14ft 7-9wt double handed rod is advisable also.

Selá is exceptionally clear and a pleasure to fish with floating lines and small flies in/on the surface, hence sinking lines and weighted flies are not permitted.

ONCE FISHED, SELÁ MARKS AN EXPERIENCE BY WHICH OTHER SALMON RIVERS ARE MEASURED. HENCE RODS ARE GREATLY CHERISHED AND RARELY AVAILABLE.

GUIDES & STAFF

A lodge is nothing without it’s staff and the same is true of a river without great guides. Fortunately the Sela river has an extremely attentive and experienced team who have huge experience in the north east of iceland and very specifically on Sela itself.

The guides are amongst the best you will find in Iceland, if not the world, and read the right time to pause for a coffee and peer into a crystal clear pool as well as they read the water itself.

Knowledgable on all things on and off the water a day with a the team on Sela is an education in fishing, history and nature. Learn all you can as lessons learned on Iceland’s clear rivers can be applied all over the world.
