Hofsá

The Hofsá river is OFTEN described as “perfect fly water”. it is TRUE. DRAMATIC CANYON POOLS LEAD TO corners and ledgy runs STREWN WITH HOLDING LIES and on down to a lower river made up of LONG GLASSY RUNS. all sat under the spectacular north eastern mountain ranges.

THE BIG FISH OF THE NORTH EAST

Do not go to Hofsa to land dozens of salmon, go to Hofsa to fish for salmon in incredibly satisfying ways and with the hope of connecting with a few of Hofsa’s multi sea winter specimens. Fish of 20-25lbs+ feature every season, and freakishly strong 12-16lb fish are spread throughout the river by mid July when they are joined by the grilse run.

Hofsá has 7 beats and 7 rods. You fish your beat for one session and then you rotate between beats. You can fish most of the pools with a single handed rod but you should also bring a light weight double handed rod to make best of all fishing situations. The river is very clear and is a pure joy to fish with floating line and small flies.

EASTERN WILDERNESS

The north east of Iceland is a very secluded place with a unique history and a dramatic privacy quite unlike anywhere else.

The tough and rugged nature of the farming and seafaring community is harmonised with the seasonal environment - resilient and raw in the exposed winter then softening into summer like the warm meadowlands of Hofsa’s lower river.

Once experienced, never forgotten.
