All beats working

The last week of July and the first weeks of August are prime time on East Ranga, and the fish runs really built with days of 50+ salmon landed and a further 20-30 hooked and lost. Pretty spectacular fishing by any account.

Rain tried its best to colour the river, but it held well and the blueish green tinge in the water meant for some very aggressive takes, the fresh water also spreading the salmon well through the entire system resulting in beats nine down to one all producing good sport.

The grilse run is pushing now, with pods of super fresh 5-6lb fish running fast through the beats and snatching aggressively at flies. A high number of these salmon are lost or “on-n-off” in the blink of an eye….but still send the adrenalin coursing through any fishers veins. Exciting times.

With somewhere over 700 salmon landed and plenty running we look forward to the next weeks on the East Ranga.
