HERE THEY COME….

Having been a little nervous about the 2025 Icelandic salmon runs being a combination of late and/or weak, we have now been treated to some truly excellent fishing. A little colour and rise in the river settled back and the team arriving on the afternoon on 19 July had landed more than 60 salmon by the end of the following day, losing a further 50+ fish besides over the three sessions.

Although grilse did feature, the majority of fish have been 8-18lb salmon, mostly very fresh, and well spread throughout all the beats, with Oddholl, Beat 1, Beat 8 and Beat 2 kicking in nicely. Beat 5 had already started to hold fish well in the previous days.

In fact, we could probably have guessed this would happen as the team fishing 15-19 July started to experience notable catches in single sessions on individual beats – strong pushes of salmon taking aggressively in the likes of Strandarsiki and Pedro’s - where one session produced 10 multi sea winter salmon to the two rods.

We are still waiting for a salmon we can confidently call 20lbs +, but there have now been a good dozen fish nudging above the 19lb mark and a couple of dozen 17lb+.

With over 40 salmon landed on 20 July, lets hope we can soon report a day of 50+ fish to the net…
