PROVIDENCE FISHING REPORT
Two consecutive weeks on Providence Atoll delivered power, perseverance, and serious fish. From rare permit and metre plus GT’s to trophy triggerfish and flats slams, the atoll once again proved why it remains one of the most rewarding fisheries in the Indian Ocean.
The ever popular giant trevally led the scoreboard for the week, with 44 GT landed across the two weeks, including several fish over 1 metre. Nikita, Vladimir, Rodion and Maxim all land multiple GT’s despite challenging conditions. Christoph landed the biggest GT of the period, a monstrous 111 cm fish. He then followed with two metre class fish measuring 103 cm and 102 cm, while Bill secured a superb 97 cm GT on the final day. Kathy opened her week in style with a powerful 94 cm GT, and Renè added multiple fish, with his biggest measuring 94 cm. Helmut, no stranger to GT’s, also contributed several fish to the group's tally.
As the weeks have progressed, the trigger fishing has picked up with 12 fish landed across the period. Nikita landed three triggerfish in his week, while Kathy stood out with two trophy 52 cm yellowmargin triggerfish, both powerful and beautifully fought. Christoph and Bill each added yellowmargin triggers to their tally, and Chris landed two of his own. Helmut added both a yellowmargin and a moustache triggerfish, rounding out a highly productive trigger week.
Catching a permit on Providence remains a rare prize, but persistence paid off. Nikita arrived with a single goal, to land an indo pacific permit. Through dedication and determination and many hours, he achieved it and landed a beautiful 46 cm permit, a true golden nugget and a standout moment of the fortnight.
Bonefish provided steady support throughout the two weeks, with 10 bonefish landed, one of them supporting Nikita’s flats slam.
From 111 cm GT’s and multiple metre class fish to 52 cm trophy triggers and a hard earned permit, early February on Providence delivered memorable battles and serious quality. An awesome week of fishing with returning guests, many new memories made and friendships grown, we look forward to welcoming everyone back in the seasons to come.
